1.1. Keyboard shortcuts

 

The list of supported shortcuts with detailed description is shown in Table 1. The shortcuts that use numbers can be initiated from Numeric keypad or keyboard number keys.

Grid/Line Size

Toggle through the grid/lines  settings on project current page. The grid is used to simplify drawing of objects by aligning them to grid. The light gray lines on the displayed page are used for visual alignment and placement of objects. This shortcut toggles through four different settings. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through grid/line setting selection in the opposite direction.

When page measuring units are in inches the following settings are available: 0.025in/.1in, 0.05in/0.1in, 0.1in/0.1in, 0.25in/.5in.

When page measuring units are in millimeters the following settings are available: 1mm/1mm, 2mm/2mm, 5mm/10mm, 10mm/10mm.

When page measuring units are in pixels the following settings are available: 2px/10px, 5px/10px, 10px/10px, 25px/25px.
 

Each setting represents a typical project page setting.  The grid/line setting can be adjusted under Page property (Shortcut "P") or by double clicking on any empty part of a project page .  To make lines visible and enable the grid snap, use the shortcut "G" or click on the toolbar  icon .

Standard settings can also be selected by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen or when mouse pointer is over the Grid Enable icon in the toolbar area .

Line, Cable, Rectangle, Ellipse, Arc outline Style

Toggle through line/cable styles. This shortcut will toggle through five line/cable styles. Solid    Dash   Dot   Dash-Dot Dash-Dot-Dot . This shortcut also sets the default line and cable style if none of the objects are selected when this shortcut is used.

Line/Cable style setting also affects rectangle, arc and ellipse outline type. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through selections in the opposite direction.

Standard settings can also be selected by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen .

Line, Cable, Rectangle, Ellipse, Arc outline Color

Toggle through Line/Cable colors. This shortcut toggles through six different colors. Black Red Green Blue Violet Yellow . This shortcut also sets the default Line and Cable color if line or cable is not selected when this shortcut is used.

Additional colors can be applied by selecting an object and using shortcut "B" and setting line and  cable properties . Line/Cable color setting also affects rectangle, arc and ellipse outline color. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through color selection in the opposite direction.

Standard settings can also be selected by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen . Formatting bar is also available to set Line/Cable colors by scrolling over Line color formatting icon    using mouse wheel, or by clicking on the line color formatting icon and selecting desired color.

Line/Cable Width

Toggle through line/cable weight. This shortcut toggles through five different weights: 1pt 2pt 3pt 4pt   5pt . This shortcut also sets the default line and cable weight if line or cable is not selected when this shortcut is used.  Line/Cable weight setting also affects rectangle, arc and ellipse outline width. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through width selection in the opposite direction.

Other Line and Cable widths can be selected by using shortcut "B" and setting Line and  Cable properties .

Line/Cable weight can also be selected by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen . In addition a Line/Cable weight formatting tool window  is displayed when cable or line is selected. Placing cursor over the Weight window provides an easy way of adjusting Line/Cable weight using mouse scroll function.

Fill Color

Toggle through Object fill colors. This shortcut toggles through six different fill colors for Cable, Rectangle, Arc and Ellipse objects. Black Red Green Blue Violet Yellow and Transparent. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through color selection in the opposite direction. This shortcut also sets the default object fill color when objects are not selected when this shortcut is used.

Additional colors can be selected by using the shortcut "B" and setting object properties .

For Cable fill make sure that "Fill enabled" is selected in Cable properties or use Right mouse key click on the Fill format icon on the Formatting tool bar.

 

Colors also can be selected by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen or Fill Color formatting button on the Format tool bar.

Rotate angle

Toggle through object rotate angles. This shortcut toggles through seven different object rotate angles. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through angle selection in the opposite direction. The "Space Bar" shortcut rotates selected objects clockwise and "Shift-Space Bar" rotates selected objects counter clockwise. Rotation angles of 1, 5, 10, 15, 30, 45, 90 degrees are available from this shortcut. Other rotate angles can be selected by using shortcut "P" and setting Page properties . When 0 degrees rotate angle is selected, the rotate shortcut is disabled.  Rotate tool can also be used to rotate objects.

Rotate angle also sets a constrain angle. When Line, Cable or Dimension object is drawn with Ctrl key pressed, the drawing angle is constrained to multiple of rotate angle.

Rotate angle also can be selected by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen .

Round Corners Rectangle

Toggle through round corners values. This shortcut toggles through four different rectangle round corner settings. 0%  5%  10% 15%  are for rectangle. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through selection in the opposite direction. Additional values for round corners can be selected using shortcut "B" and setting object properties. When objects are not selected, the default value is set for rectangle only when using this shortcut.

Round corner size can be adjusted  by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen or on the Round window in the format bar when rectangle is selected.
 

Round corners can be adjusted as a percentage of the rectangle width or as an absolute dimension size. This feature is available in Rectangle format form (Shortcut B) when rectangle is selected .

Curve Cable

Toggle through round corners values for Cable tool. The round corners function is selected by clicking on the Round corner format button   in the Formatting bar when Cable object is selected. This shortcut toggles through four different cable round corner settings. 0"  .05"  .1"   .15"  .2"  are for Cable object only. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through selection in opposite direction. Values for round corners also can be selected by using shortcut "B" and setting cable properties . When objects are not selected, the default value is set only for rectangle object when using this shortcut. In addition each bend point on the cable can have different corner round size by double clicking on the bend point and selecting specific size .

 

Default value for cable round corner size is set under Format -> Default Cable...menu.

Curved Cable size can be adjusted by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen .

Fillet Cable

Toggle through fillet corners values for Cable tool. The fillet corners function is selected by clicking on the Fillet corner format button   in the Formatting bar when Cable object is selected. This shortcut toggles through four different cable fillets corner settings. 0"  .05"  .1"   .15"  .2" are for cable only. Press and Hold "Shift" key to toggle through selection in opposite direction. Fillet corners can also be selected by using shortcut "B" and setting cable properties .

When objects are not selected, the default value is set only for rectangle object when using this shortcut. Default value for cable is set under Format -> Default Cable...menu.

Fillet size for cable can be selected by using mouse Scroll wheel when mouse is pointed to the status bar on the bottom of the screen .

Page Zoom Out

Zoom page out around mouse pointer. To show a complete page use Fit "F" shortcut or tool bar icon . To Zoom in on all objects only use tool icon on the tool bar . Mouse scroll wheel can be used to rapidly zoom in or out using mouse wheel. Zoom tool bar can be used to zoom to selected area of the drawing. This shortcut works on the numeric keypad only.

Page Zoom In

Zoom page in around mouse pointer. To show complete page use Fit "F" shortcut or tool bar icon . To Zoom in on objects only use "Fit Objects" tool icon on the tool bar . Mouse scroll wheel can be used to rapidly zoom in or out using mouse wheel. Zoom tool bar can be used to zoom to selected area of the drawing. This shortcut works on the numeric keypad only.

Cable Arrow/Net Name

Toggle connector arrow and the net name on the left side. This shortcut toggles between arrow to the left with net name, arrow to the right with net name , no arrow with net name , arrow to the left no net name, arrow to the right no net name   and  no arrow no net name . Cable arrow size is adjusted as the cable weight is changed.

Line Arrow

Toggle line arrow left side of the line object. This shortcut toggles between arrow to the left , arrow to the right   and no arrow  . Line arrow size is adjusted as the line weight is changed.

Dimension Ending

Toggle through five dimension endings. When dimension object is selected this short cut toggles through arrow inside , arrow outside , no arrow , ball and slash .

Cable Arrow/Net Name

Toggle connector arrow and the net name on the left side of the cable. This shortcut toggles between arrow to the right with net name, arrow to the left with net name , no arrow with net name , arrow to the left no net name, arrow to the right no net name , no arrow no net name . Cable arrow size is adjusted as the cable width is changed.

Line Arrow

Toggle line arrow right side of the line object. This shortcut toggles between arrow to the right , arrow to the left and no arrow . Line arrow size is adjusted as the line width is changed.

Dimension Ending

Toggle through five dimension endings. When dimension object is selected this short cut toggles through arrow inside , arrow outside , no arrow , ball , and slash .

A

Add Libraries

This shortcut allows a quick access to "Add Libraries" screen . The same function is available under File menu or on the Tool bar . When a library is added, it appears on the right side of the program screen in the library pane area and is available for use in any project. This is a global setting and all selected libraries will be loaded when program is opened. Symbols from libraries can be dragged to design page and connected together to form a system diagram. "Enter" key is used to place selected symbol on the center of a design page.

B

Format Objects

Open appropriate format form to format selected object or group of objects . This shortcut is active when a single object or multiple objects are selected. It is best to select the same type of objects when changing properties for multiple objects. The same function is available by Right Clicking mouse key on a single object or group of objects and selecting specific format option .

C

Cable Draw Tool

This shortcut Selects tool to draw Cable object. The same tool can be selected clicking on the Tool bar  Cable icon . When the Cable drawing tool is selected the mouse pointer changes to reflect that selection. There are two modes used to draw cable: Standard and Continuous . Use TAB key to switch between two modes when cable object is selected. It is best to draw cables with grid enabled using "G" shortcut. To create arrow and to display cable name on each side of a cable use "," or "." shortcuts. To set cable properties use shortcut key "K". Use "Esc" key to exit this mode and return to Pointer .

D

Default Object Format

Change default and current properties of selected object . This shortcut is active when single or multiple objects are selected. It is best to select the same type of objects when changing multiple objects. The same function is available from the Format menu. The default object property settings under Format menu does not modify currently selected objects. Right clicking on different tools also brings default object configuration form.

E

Toggle Library View

Toggle visible Library selection pane. This shortcut is used to maximize working area in AVSnap. Three settings are toggled: Library Viewer is not visible; Library Viewer is visible; Library Viewer is Visible and Library file selection window is visible. The same selection can be made from the View menu .

F

Project and
Library Mode:
Fit Page to Window

Set zoom to fit page into working area. This shortcut can be selected from the Tool bar icon . When used, this function will readjust zoom to fit page into working area. This shortcut is very useful in bringing page into view after working in high zoom with individual objects.

Presentation Mode:
Fit Page to Screen

Fit complete slide to the screen. This function is used after the slide has been zoomed or panned. The position of the slide and zoom factor will be remembered between slides until (shortcut "F") Fit Page key is pressed.

Control Mode:
Fit 100%

The control mode is entered when page size is set in pixels. In control mode shortcut "F" fits page to 100% or 1:1 to the selected screen size matching pixel to pixel.

G

Toggle Grid/Lines View

This shortcuts performs two functions: 1 - Show/Hide grid lines and 2 - Enable/disable Snap to Grid function. When grid lines are shown, the project screen contains faint horizontal and vertical lines to help object alignment . The same function can be selected on the Tool bar . When grid is disabled, drawing and lacing all objects becomes freehand. Use Ctrl key to constrain drawing to a specific angle. It is recommended that all drawings are done with the grid setting enabled to simplify cable routing and objects alignment.

H

Horizontal Text Alignment

Toggle through horizontal text alignment for selected objects. Many objects in AVSnap contain text property. Rectangle, Ellipse, Dimension and Line can contain text. Text can be modified by double clicking on an object. This shortcut toggles through three settings: Left Justified Centered   and Right Justified . The same function can be selected from the Text Formatting tool bar by using the mouse scroll wheel or clicking on the tool icon.

Alt-H Mirror Object Horizontally This shortcut allows to mirror objects horizontally  left and right. Right click menu also allows to select this function. Object before mirror and after horizontal mirror is applied . Object can also be mirrored around the origin by selecting origin and object or group of objects at the same time.

I

Insert Image

Insert image into design page. This shortcut allows insertion of BMP,  JPG or GIF type files. Once images are inserted they can be scaled or adjusted to proper size. Ctrl key can be used to remove proportional constrain adjustment. Use Shift key to adjust image round its center. The same function can be selected from the Edit menu . In addition images can be cut or pasted from and to pages in AVSnap. Use "Ctrl C" to copy, "Ctrl V" to paste images from other applications to AVSnap. Only BMP, JPG or GIF type images can be copied or pasted.

J

Place Designator

This shortcut places a symbol designator text on the design sheet for a selected library symbol. The designator name can be modified by double clicking on a symbol. The designator is placed above a symbol as a text box. By double clicking on the text box, description text can be modified. Symbol designators are assigned automatically when a new symbol is placed on a design sheet if designator name was assigned when symbol was designed in a library . The text size and the font type will be the same as the default text size and font for current page which is visible in the text format tool bar .

K

Cable Properties

Modify properties of selected cable objects . This shortcut allows to set Cable net name and Cable length as well as other properties. This cable information is displayed the Cable List report using shortcut "Y".

L

Line Draw Tool

This shortcut selects Line draw tool. The same function can be selected from the Tool bar  . When the Line drawing tool is selected the mouse pointer changes to reflect that selection. It is best to draw Lines with grid enabled using "G" shortcut. To insert text on selected line use "T" shortcut or double click on the line.  The Text can be positioned vertically on the line , bellow the line or above the line . Horizontally it can be positioned left , right and on the center . Text also can be rotated with the line . These setting can also be done from the Text Formatting toolbar . Arrows can be added to each side of a line using "," or "." shortcuts. Use "Esc" key to exit this mode.

M

Show Materials list report

Show materials list report.  This shortcut displays the List of Materials report used in a project . The AVSnap automatically calculates all materials on the current page or on all pages and displays them on the form. Materials are sorted by manufacturer and all prices are added together. Use shortcut "Q" when symbol is selected to include or exclude individual symbols from the List of Materials. The status of selected symbol is shown on the page status bar . Material List report is formatted to be easily copied and pasted to the Excel or a word processor.

N

Project Mode:
N
ew Page Insert

Add a new page to project. The AVSnap project can have unlimited number of pages . These pages can also be moved left or right using ";" and " ' " shortcuts or by click and dragging individual tabs to a new position.  A new page can be created as a copy of the currently displayed page or as an empty page. Page can be deleted by using "Del" key when objects and symbols are not selected.

Library Mode:

ew Symbol Insert

Add a new symbol to the current library. When new symbol is added, some of the property fields are copied from the first symbol in the library.

O

Oval/Ellipse Draw Tool

This shortcut selects the tool to draw Oval/Ellipse. The same drawing tool can be selected from the Tool bar  . When Ellipse drawing tool is selected the mouse pointer changes to reflect that selection. To draw circle, press and hold "Ctrl" key while using Ellipse tool. To insert text inside selected Ellipse use "T" shortcut or double click on the Ellipse.  Text can be positioned vertically using "V" shortcut on the center, bottom or top . Horizontally using "H" shortcut it can be positioned left, right and on the center. Text also can be rotated with the Ellipse using "Spacebar" shortcut. This formatting can also be done from the Text Formatting Bar. Use "Esc" key to exit this mode.

P

Page Setup

Use this shortcut to set Page properties . This function can also be selected from the Edit menu or double clicking on the empty part of the project page. Page setup form has many features that can enhance operation of AVSnap.

Q

Include/exclude symbols from Materials List report

This shortcut is used to include or exclude selected symbols from the Materials List or selected cables from Cable list. This feature can be set from a Symbol Property screen by double clicking on the selected symbol. It also can be set as default when the symbol is created in Library mode. Use "M" shortcut to display Materials List report or "Y" shortcut to display List of cables report on the current page or on all pages .

R

Rectangle Draw Tool

This shortcut selects draw Rectangle tool. The same tool can be selected from the Tool bar  . When Rectangle drawing tool is selected the mouse pointer changes to reflect that selection. To draw square, press and hold "Ctrl" key while using Rectangle tool. To insert text inside selected Rectangle use "T" shortcut or double click on the Rectangle.  Text can be positioned vertically using "V" shortcut on the center, bottom, top , top line, top above line , bottom line, or bottom bellow line. Horizontally using "H" shortcut it can be positioned left, right and on the center. Text also can be rotated with the Rectangle or remain right side up. These setting can also be configured from the Text Formatting Bar. Use "Esc" key to exit this mode.

S

Library mode:
Snap Point Tool

Select Snap Point placement tool. This tool can also be selected from the Tool bar in Library mode only. When Snap Point placement tool is selected the mouse pointer changes to reflect that selection. Once selected, snap points can be inserted anywhere on a symbol. Snap point properties can be set using "B" shortcut or double clicking on the Snap Point.

Project mode:
Toggle Snap Point display

This shortcut toggles the snap points between ON and OFF on all symbols on a project. This is a global shortcut and will effect all symbols on all pages. This shortcut is active in Project Mode . This shortcut effects only visibility of the Snap Points. The snapping action is active regardless of setting of this property.

Flowchart Mode:
Toggle Blue Snap Points on Rectangle and Ellipse.

When the rectangle or ellipse object is selected, "S" shortcut is used to display Blue snap points . These snap points are used to create flow charts using rectangles or ellipses. Cables are used to connect flow chart objects together to create a flow chart.

T

Text properties

Show text properties window for selected object. If "T" is used without selecting any object, a text box will be automatically inserted at the mouse pointer position.

U

Lock/Unlock

This shortcut is used to Lock or Unlock selected objects or symbols. The status bar displays locked or unlocked status of each object or group of objects. When object is unlocked the handles around an object are green when it is locked they turn gray . When object is locked it cannot be moved or rotated, however text can still be modified.

V

Vertical text alignment

Toggle through vertical text alignment for selected objects. Text can be positioned in rectangle vertically on the center, bottom, top , top line, top above line , bottom line, or bottom bellow line. Text can be positioned in ellipse  the center, bottom or top . Text can also

Alt-V Mirror Object Vertically This shortcut allows to mirror objects vertically  up and down. Right click menu is also provided to select this function. Before mirror and after mirror vertically is applied

W

Page link jump

Jump to the page linked to selected object. This shortcut works only when a page link is assigned to selected object. To have link working you must have at least two pages in the project. When object is linked to the page it is easy to jump to that page by selecting that object and pressing "W". To enter page link right click on the object and select from the drop down menu and then assigned page to jump to. In presentation mode clicking on the linked object will jump directly to the liked page.

X

Group/Ungroup

This shortcut allows to Group or Ungroup objects. Once grouped, objects can be moved and rotated as a single object.

Y

Show List of cables

Show List of Cables used on the current page or on all pages . For each cable in the design you can select if you want to include it in the Cable list or not  using shortcut "K" and selection option or using "Q" shortcut or clicking on the status bar .

Z

Zoom/Pan tool

This shortcut allows to select zoom tool and zoom on selected area. The mouse pointer displays zoom tool and is used to select area for zooming. Right mouse button can be pressed and held to pan selected page.

Send to back

Send selected objects to the background. The red line here is shown on the foreground and after pressing shortcut "[" it goes to background .

Bring to front

Send selected objects to the foreground. The red line here is shown on the background  and after pressing shortcut "]" it goes to foreground .

Select library view filter

Toggle through the library filter view. This shortcut allows to display different type of symbols. When symbols are created they can be assigned to different type of symbols . This shortcut toggles between four type of symbols displayed in the library and the last toggle, no filter. When filter is not selected all symbols--- are shown in the library. Symbols with the same model number are sorted in the same order as the type of signal. Status bar shows the current filter setting .

~ Select Cursor Type This shortcut allows to toggle between normal pointer cursor or cursor with horizontal and vertical lines . Using cursor with lines provides guidelines for aligning objects on the design page. This setting can also be adjusted in the Pages setup window (Shortcut "P") under Page Tab .

 Alt

Library mode only:
Move snap points temporarily to the back.

Moves snap points to background when it is pressed, and restores them back to front when it is released. (Library mode only). This is used when line under snap points needs to be moved without moving the snap point.

 Delete

Delete

Delete is universally used throughout the program. When objects are selected, Delete will delete selected objects if they are not locked. When nothing is selected on the design page, Delete will delete current page. If it is a last page in the project, it will not be deleted. Before any significant deletion, confirmation will be requested. Use "Ctrl Z" to undo deletion.

 Arrow keys

Move objects

Move selected objects in X and Y direction by grid size. Grid must be enabled using "G" shortcut for the arrow keys to operate. Holding down Shift key and using arrow keys allows to move objects five grids at a time.

 Space Bar

Rotate object CW

Rotate selected objects or group of objects clockwise. The rotation angle is defined on the status bar and can be adjusted using number "6" shortcut. It also can be adjusted from Page Setup menu using shortcut "P" or double clicking on the empty portion of the project page. Also the Rotate tool can be used to rotate objects. To rotate objects counterclockwise, use Shift Space Bar combination.

Presentation Mode:
Advance Slide Forward

Presentation mode allows PowerPoint type presentations using the AVSnap. This shortcut is used to advance slides forward. In addition Right mouse key and Page Down key can be used to advance slides.

Pan Slide

Right Mouse key when pressed and held down can be used to pan around the slide. This is useful when slide is zoomed in.

Mouse Scroll Wheel

All Drawing Modes:
Zoom In and Out

Zoom function for all modes except Communication and Control Run mode. Zoom Tool bar can also be used to zoom in to the selected area. Zoom select window can be used to set any zoom level.

Mouse Scroll Wheel + Ctrl Pan page Horizontally In many cases there is a need to pan image from left to right or right to left. By pressing Ctrl key and using mouse scroll wheel, the image can be panned from left to right or right to left. Similar function can be achieved by placing cursor on the horizontal scroll bar and using mouse scroll wheel. Notice that mouse cursor changes to scroll wheel.
Mouse Scroll Wheel + Shift Pan Page Vertically In many cases there is a need to pan image up and down. By pressing Shift key and using mouse scroll wheel, the image can be panned up and down. Similar function can be achieved by placing cursor on the vertical scroll bar and using mouse scroll wheel. Notice that mouse cursor changes to scroll wheel.

Help

Display abbreviated Help shortcuts list and allow to print it.

F3

Communication Mode:
Transmit Data

Transmit data from a Notepad window to a selected Com or TCP port. If any text is selected in the Notepad window, only selected text is sent to the terminal window.

Run Mode:
Display Data Traffic

During Run mode display data that is sent through the communication ports. Both COM ports and TCP/IP ports are monitored and traffic is reported. Data can be cut and pasted to other applications.

Control Mode:
Code Window Search Next Occurrence
This shortcut is used to find next occurrence of a specific phrase in the code text.

F5

Presentation Mode

Switch to Presentation mode. If user is on the first slide, black screen will appear with word "READY". If user is on the middle of the presentation, then presentation starts immediately.

F9

Control Run Mode

Switch to Control Run Mode. In this mode user interface is presented for controlling AV system.

F11

Display program code window

This shortcut works only in Control Run and allows to display program window. From that window program can be written to control AV equipment.

This shortcut is used to find next occurrence of a specific phrase in the code text.
