3.1. Title Bar
Title bar displays version of AVSnap, name of opened project or library and
the current mode of operation. It is recommended that you always download the latest version of the AVSnap
before reporting any bugs in the program. We constantly improve the software and
many bugs are resolved when a new version is introduced.

AVSnap can operate in eight different modes. The complete list of modes is provided here, the detailed explanation of each mode is provided here.
The menu bar for AVSnap contains six sections. Each section is tailored to specific function of the software.

3.2.1 File menu
File menu provide functions related to file operations, printing and password
protection. Many of the functions here can be activated by using shortcuts.
"Alt" key can be used to jump to menu bar and select functions using keyboard.

Open new design page in Project mode. If user has another project currently open, the program will verify that it is saved before starting a new project. All settings for the new project are derived from default settings for page size and all object properties. The name of the new project is always "Untitled" |

Open file from the AVSnap server. There are many files available from the server and new ones are added regularly. AVSnap updates these files to provide many samples for different applicatios. |

Open new library design page in Library mode. If user has another project currently open, the program will verify that it is saved before starting a new project. All settings for the new library are derived from default settings for page size and all object properties. When new library is created, AVSnap automatically creates heading symbol and one empty symbol. The name of the new library is always "Untitled" |

Open existing library for editing in Library mode. If user has another project currently open, the program will verify that it is saved before starting a new library. All settings for the open library are derived from original settings in the library. The existing library can also be opened for editing by double clicking on the library file icon or by dragging library file to the AVSnap design area. |

This function allows user to add libraries to the library selection area and all of the symbols in the library can now be placed on the design page. "A" shortcut can be used to Add libraries. Typically user will add the libraries they intend to use in the current project. Once symbols are placed on the design page, the libraries can be closed or hidden using "E" shortcut. |

|
This function allows user to add libraries to the library selection area from the AVSnap server. Many manufacturers submit new libraries or update existing libraries. |
|
|
Save current project or library to the hard disk. The location of folders is always remembered and displayed next time Save As function is used ."Ctrl+S" shortcut perform the same function. If the file is saved first time, program will ask user where to save it. After that using this menu will save project or library in the same location with the same file name. |
|
|
Save current project or library to the hard disk. This function allows user to select destination folder were project or library can be saved. The location of folders is always remembered and displayed next time Save As function is used. |
|
|
Save file and protect it with Password. This function allows you to save file with password and continue working on the file without password. File must be different name than the current open project file. |

Save current project as executable project. This applies only to the projects that contain pages in Control mode. Once saved, the file can be used as a stand alone application. |
|
|
This menu item allows importing of DXF files. The import function supports R12, R13, R14 and LT2000 DXF formats. During the import the round corners must be set to 0% for accurate rendering. Since AVSnap has many features that are not supported by DXF format, not all objects can be successfully imported. DXF import can be done in mm or inches. If the original drawing was done in mm then import it as mm, if it was done in "in" then import it in inches. |

The DXF export function will output DXF file in R13 format. Since AVSnap has many features that are not supported by DXF format, not all objects can be successfully exported. Specifically Active objects may not be exported. |
|
|
Print current project to printer or PDF file. Selections are available to decide how to print the project. Some of the options include: Fit to page, spread across multiple pages, adjust margins, print black and white. "Ctrl+P" shortcut can be used to start this menu. User can also print current page or all pages. |
|
|
Print current library to printer or PDF file. Selections are available to decide how to print the library. The library format printing is pre-defined and is designed to provide easy printing for booklet type format. Each page contains 12 symbols and has also basic information about each symbols. All symbols are scaled to print in defined area.
|
|
|
Allows selection of a specific area on the page to be printed. Once selected a red dotted line outline the area to be printed. The selected area is a temporary setting. When new project is opened or started, it is cleared. The print area can be re-selected until it is satisfactory before printing. To clear print area, click on the page or select Clear Print Area from File menu. When print dialog is shown, make sure to select "Print Selected" before printing.

|
Set password protection for current project or library. This feature is used when design file need to be protected from modification or when the file need to be locked after expiration date. Once password is selected, to edit file, user will have to enter the password. Without the password user can open file in Read Only mode and Presentation mode. If the file has an expiration date set, the file will be locked up on that date and user will not be able to open or view it without entering valid password. |

|
Select external file with prices and update prices in current project and /or open libraries. |
|
|
Set default options for the program. After that menu, the program will close. Always save file before resetting defaults. |
|
|
Select different language for the program. The following languages are available: English (default), German, Italian, French, Russian, Dutch, Polish and Spanish. The languages may be available from the AVSnap server and may require connection to the internet. |
|
|
Language editor allows user to create their own language file to be used in AVSnap. |
|
|
File explorer is used to investigate file structure of AVSnap file. It is mainly needs to be used by developers who are interested to write import/export routines for AVSnap type files. |
|
|
Recently used projects are displayed on the bottom of the menu. Double clicking on any listed project opens this project for editing. |
|
|
Recently edited libraries are displayed on the bottom of the menu. Double clicking on any listed library opens this library for editing. |
|
|
Close the program. If any project is open, program will first request confirmation to save the current project or library. |

3.2.2 Edit Menu
This menu is used to provide functionality to the working environment. Many types of functions are available to improve productivity and to speed up the design process.

Undo last changes in AVSnap. This is universal command and work in all edit modes. In some cases when function is very complicated this command may not be available. Example would be working with very large bit maps. "Ctrl+Z" shortcut can be used to perform the same function. |

Deletes selected objects or symbols and puts them on the Clipboard. Any object that is cut can later be pasted into AVSnap. The .BMP or .JPG images can be cut and pasted from any other application. "Ctrl+X" shortcut can be used to perform this function. |

This function copies objects or symbols from clipboard to design page. Any object that is cut can later be pasted into AVSnap. The .BMP or .JPG images can be pasted from any other application. Graphics copied form other applications are placed on the middle of the page. |

Insert image function allows to place any .bmp or .jpg file on the design page in AVSnap. The selected images can be added using this menu or dragged directly to the design page. "I" shortcut can be used to display image insert dialog. |

Add new page to current project. The added page can be a copy of the current page or can be a brand new empty page. "N" shortcut can be used to perform this function. |

|
In AVSnap pages can be created in any order. After they have been created they can be moved left and right relative to each other until they are in the correct position. This menu item moves selected page left. " ; " shortcut will also move page to the left. |

Remove selected page and all objects and symbols on the page from current project. If objects are not selected on the page, pressing "Del" button will perform the dame function. |

This menu item is only active in Library mode. Add new empty symbol to current library. When adding symbol, this function copies certain parameters from the first symbol in the library. These parameters include: designator, company name, phone number, and manufacturer web site. |

This menu item is only active in Library mode. Duplicate existing symbol in current library. The copied symbol is identical to the original symbol. This function is used when new library is created and some symbols are similar to each other. Instead of starting a symbol from scratch, just duplicate and modify existing symbol. |

This menu item is only active in Library mode. Remove selected symbol from the current library. |
|
|
This menu item locks all objects for a complete project. This is typically done at the end of the project to make sure nothing is accidentally moved or modified. To edit project again user can unlock each object individual using "U" shortcut or use Unlock all Object function on the menu. |

This menu item unlocks all objects for a complete project. This is typically done when additional modification to the project are required. To lock the project again user can lock each object individual using "U" shortcut or use Lock all Object function on the menu. |

|
AVSnap has a built in spell checker in 14 different languages. English is supplied as default, however any other can be downloaded from within AVSnap. This function highlights all words that may have spelling errors. |

This function clears the highlighting of miss-spelled words. |
|
|
Open the page setup dialog for setting default page parameters. "P" shortcut can be used to perform this function or Double click on the empty part of the page. |

3.2.3 View Menu
View menu allows user to adjust
the working area for maximum productivity. Many of the areas of the screen can
be removed to reduce clutter and to make design environment more effective.
Shortcuts are provided to make changes to the working environment fast and easy.

Any page in AVSnap can be set as Hidden. Once page is set as Hidden, this menu selection allows to hide these pages so they do not clutter the design screen. If the page is Template type, it can still be applied to other pages but it will not be visible on the page tab. Also hidden pages are not displayed in the presentation mode. If the file has a password protection hidden pages will not be visible. |

|
Show the list of materials used on current page or on all pages. Shortcut "Q" can be used to include or exclude symbols from the list of materials. "M" shortcut can be used to display Materials list. |

|
Show the list of cables used on current page or on all pages. Shortcut "Q" can be used to include or exclude cables from the list of cables. "Y" shortcut can be used to display Cable list. Cable list provides information on the connectors on each end of the cable, cable length and also net name. With this list a technician can label all cables and have a perfect record of all connections. |

Start presentation mode. "F5" shortcut performs the same function. |

3.2.5 Meeting menu
Meeting menu is used to select options before
meeting and after meeting is started. Initiator and participant has different
menus depending on the meeting status.

selected, AVSnap will contact AVSnap server and set up session number. This
session number will be displayed in the title bar
